Dubai Spas: Oriental Hammam at the One & Only Mirage

Travel to Wellness editorial intern Nadia Mohammad spent the summer in Dubai and Qatar and visited a handful of the newest spas.

Here’s her story on Dubai’s Oriental Hammam:

One of the seven United Arab Emirates, Dubai is the largest commercial capital of the Middle East and one of the most luxurious and visited places in the world. As visitors here continue to reap the benefits of the relaxing Middle Eastern lifestyle by experiencing the tranquility of Dubai spas, I took a half day to visit one of the city's most luxurious:

Oriental Hammam, One&Only Royal Mirage, Dubai

Oriental Hammam

Recently added to the grand collection of spas in Dubai is the Oriental Hammam in the One&Only Royal Mirage Resort located near the Jumeirah area, a major tourist destination.

Housed within the towering domes and carved arches of this luxurious Arabian-influenced resort, the Oriental Hammam is a traditional Moroccan steam and massage room where spa-goers can experience this cultural and social aspect of Middle Eastern countries. The hammam is a beautiful and steamy chamber with a heated marble massage table, steam rooms, two Jacuzzi, private massage rooms, jet showers, a whirlpool and a resting area. The massage therapists are experts from Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey. It is the only hammam in Dubai.

For this, my first hammam experience, I booked the signature 80-minute Royal Hammam. This included deep cleansing with Moroccan black soap and eucalyptus oil, a body scrub, a traditional body wrap and a honey facial, with a grand finale of a relaxing 20-minute massage on a heated marble slab. I loved it! Not only does the treatment provide mental relaxation, but it also helps to rejuvenate and re-energize– ideal for Dubai’s sweltering summers.

Once the treatment is complete, guests are taken into the resting area where they can recline on relaxation beds while sipping on Moroccan tea and snacking on honey-coated Arabic dates.

What I enjoyed most about this treatment was the energy I had afterwards. Many spa services relax you in a way that all you want to do post-treatment is take a nap but with my muscles relaxed and skin glowing after the Royal Hammam treatment, I was fully prepared for the desert safari I’d planned for the remainder of the day.
