Laundry Bag Tells the Green Story September 21, 2009
In an effort to keep the planet healthy, many hotels are going GREEN. Sometimes the green initiatives are obvious -such as the use of reusable cloth laundry bags instead of the usual plastic. Other times the initiatives are more subtle. At the Inn at the Forks in the historic The Forks district in Winnipeg, Manitoba, management is so proud of their ecologically-minded programs they have them printed (with eco-friendly ink, of course) on their reusable guest room laundry bags.
On a recent visit, I took the time for a little bedtime reading. Here's what it read:
Our Hotel Green Initiatives
• All chemicals, soaps and cleaning products meet green standards.
• We feature organic food products and local food sourcing.
• We have photocell and motion sensor lighting controls throughout the hotel.
• All of our menus and paper supplies are printed on FSC Certified recycled paper with vegetable oil inks.
• We donate all expired linens that we can no longer use to charity.
• We use water control systems whenever feasible wihout affecting guest comfort.
• We encourage the reuse of bath towels and linens.
• All in-room and spa amenities are free of animal testing.
• Our mechanical systems include heat recovery and energy management controls.
• We recycle glass, plastic, aluminum, steel, paper and cardboard.
The laundry bag goes on to say that the future vision for the hotel and The Forks historic site includes assessing solar heating for water and using waste water heat to pre-heat incoming water through a heat exchange system.
Kudos to Inn on the Forks for doing their part to keep the planet healthy.
