HOW READERS OF TRAVEL TO WELLNESS DE-STRESS

The winner of the Ancient Secret's Travel Kit is Amanda Popko of Beamsville, Ontario. She was the 10th person to e-mail and tell us what she does to destress. How do YOU destress? Tell us and we'll include your comments here. editor@traveltowellness.com
How readers destress:
"The very best way I've found is to have a wonderful, hot bath with wonderful aromas, beautiful relaxing soft romantic music and soak to my heart's content. This can be done at any time at home and costs very little. This "soaking" works for me!
Love to go to my favourite spa - Oh, how wonderful!
You are pampered at every stage but does cost quite a bit of money which you can't always afford."

"I put on my favorite tunes and dance in front of the mirror. Hey, it makes me smile and puts me in a great mood and I burn some calories too. :)"

"I de-stress in several ways… But one thing I can do anytime is to simply close my eyes for a second and slowly taking cleansing breathes while concentrating on relaxing my shoulders down. Amazing how we can not notice how tense our muscles get!"

"A Relaxing bubble bath
Curling up with a great book"

"For me de-stressing is part body, part mind and part spirit. So to totally unwind, I hit a spa with a hot tub or steam room, the heat is imperative to the body letting go.
Second, I begin to daydream about what I want my life to be, and thirdly I give a prayer of gratitude, thanking everyone and everything that has been positive in my life."

"I try to book off a half day, full day, or just an evening to myself where i do absolutely nothing I "have to" do...and treat myself to something I really enjoy, like a good book, hot soak in the tub, or a trip to the spa!"

"One of the most effective ways for me to de-stress is to cozy up on my sofa (or in the summer, on the loveseat on my deck) with a cup of tea.
It isn't long before one of my three cats will find me and settle along side me for a pet. They love their cuddles and they love it when their very active Mom sits down to spend some time relaxing. "

"Right now I don't destress.
I am gaining some time in my life after building a new house with my husband and we can really use all the help we can get.
We have began walking but could use some pampering as well. "

"My favorite way to de-stress is to take my dog for a walk. He makes me laugh with his antics and it’s great to get outside."

"I live in the country on an island, to relieve my stress I grab a jug of water and walk around the island at least once but more than likley twice, the beauty of nature is all I need, it always brings a smile to my face, a skip in my step and the feeling of absolute AWE."

"To de-stress I run as hard and as fast as I can for as long as I can, then I catch my breath, turn around and walk home."

"A wonderful way to de-stress for me is to go to a spa and have a facial and pedicure (my two favourites).
I go away several times a year with girlfriends and stay at places like Christie's Mill where the Avalon Spa is populated with talented and warm professionals who make it a fun and relaxing experience which we can share.
One other thing we've learned to do on these trips is to change into our robes as soon as we are shown to our rooms! It immediately lowers our stress levels. Good conversation with friends, a little time to enjoy a good book, walks by the lake.
Ahhhh…just thinking about it makes me smile.
OK, now I'm calling some friends and planning our next trip!"

"In order to de-stress, I do picture myself sitting in a corner of a closet and sucking my thumb. I guess this is a carry-over from my childhood.
But I also do yoga breathing and the relaxation techniques I learned from yoga classes (relaxing every part of the body, one part at a time – i.e., toes, ankles, calves, knees, thighs, and so on). I usually fall asleep before I reach the top of my head."

"De-stressing for me is definitely walking along a beautiful sandy beach in the sunshine, preferably with a friend or loved one, ocean waves lapping at my feet - and a playful ride in the waves of waist deep blue azure seas!!
Since I'm really at home in Toronto while writing this, the next best thing would be to play my piano and enjoy some favourite songs, along with some new ones, and perhaps a little singing - there's nothing like a little good music for the soul!
And thirdly, since this is National De-Stressing Day, April 16th, and two days from my daughter's wedding on Saturday the 18th, and the fact that I'm sitting here emailing you at 6 o'clock in the morning because I can't sleep; I really need all of the above."

"I go outside and enjoy the fresh air, or just sit down and read a book, or go for a walk. Or I go see my daughter and grand son."

One amazing thing I found really helped me was to surprisingly enough was to listen to spa music channel which I can get on my television, and my husband has also made me some tapes to play in the car. The power of music is amazing."
