LA SPA AT LE MERIDIEN, STUTTGART, GERMANY

LA SPA AT LE MERIDIEN, STUTTGART, GERMANY

by Beth McBlain

The Spa: La Spa at Le Meridien in the city of Stuttgart, Germany opened May 1st, 2007.
The Location: Stuttgart is nestled in a beautiful valley, lined with German wineries and not far from the legendary Black Forest. Famous for spectacular biking and hiking trails in and around the city.

The Environment: Those fitness and wellness conscious travelers who visit Stuttgart and do not want to go without their accustomed facilities and programs will find numerous options within the city. The lush Schlossgarten Park (just across the street from Le Meridien), is a popular weekday or weekend destination for biking, jogging, and for those who just come to enjoy the scenery and a leisurely stroll.

The Experience: A separate elevator whisked me away to the luxurious La Spa and when the elevator doors opened there was a fresh scent of citrus, sandalwood and jasmine that filled the air. The staff was poised, smiling and ready to take care of me.

Following offerings of herbal teas and an array of specialty waters, I was whisked into an aromatic message room dimly lit with candles. Listening to the soft and tranquil sounds of waves and natural music I enjoyed the 60-minute La Spa Signature treatment which began with a warm foot bath using gentle scents of sage and lavender. The massage that followed included gentle pressure on my legs and arms, long deliberate stokes to relax my back and neck muscles and finishing off with gentle upward motion on my head and neck leaving my muscles loose, relaxed and rejuvenated. I just wanted to stay there and fall asleep until the morning.

The Extras Beyond the comfortable lounge there is a magnificent 14 x 6 meter indoor heated pool flanked by graceful white columns and with subdued light setting an ambiance and mood perfect for relaxation. There’s a co-ed steam bath, sauna, solarium and a fully equipped gym.
Accommodations: Le Méridien Stuttgart, considered to be one of the premier hotels in the city, is located in the centre of town and offers just over 300 guest rooms and suites. Every room features Internet access and flat screen plasma televisions.

Where to eat: In the inner city, many cafés and inns serve traditional Swabian cuisine along with the best of fine dining. If you don’t have the energy to get dressed and head out after your relaxing spa experience, there is always Le Meridien room service specializing in light meals, organic and wellness menus. The hotel’s Le Cassoulet offers a large range of French and regional specialities.
The Cost: A 60-minute Signature Treatment Massage costs about US$75. All day spa and therapeutic packages were available, starting from US$240 depending on the services or cosmetic treatments you choose. There was unlimited use of the pool, sauna, steam room, solarium and whirlpool all complimentary for hotel guests. (Editor’s Note: Please note that these prices reflect the time of our visit. Be sure to check with the spa to confirm current prices.)

Words to the wise: If you are planning to spend significant time at the hotel, consider purchasing a spa package. You may find that this will end up much more cost effective than buying individual treatments.
Le Spa facilities are handicapped accessible. Some of the spa facilities require appointments or advanced requests. There is no additional charge for spa facilities for hotel guests.
