BODY SCRUBS TO MAKE AT HOME

by Kirstie Bolitho

Just like a snake shedding its old skin, it’s even more important for us to regularly purge ours.

Giving ourselves a scrubs – at least once a week – is great for removing dead skin cells, as well as stimulating blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.

While in the bath or shower, begin by taking some of the product (recipe below) into your hands and vigorously scrubbing the various parts of the body – beginning with the feet working your way up with the lymphatic system to legs, buttocks, abdomen, chest and arms.

Pay special attention to the elbows and knees where skin is coarser, then shower off the scrub, gently dry the skin with a towel and be sure to moisturize afterwards.

Coffee & Mint Scrub

½ cup coffee beans
½ cup natural yogurt
1 to 2 mint leaves, fine chopped

Use a mortar & pestle to ground the coffee beans and mix well with yogurt and mint. Coffee is good for cellulite; mint is good for stimulation and circulation. Yogurt helps bind the two together and helps soften the skin.

Mix all ingredients together and you’re ready to scrub.

Sugar & Spice Scrub

2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspon oil
1 mint leaf, finely chopped (for stimulation)
1 purple lavender flower, finely chopped (for relaxation)

Mix all ingredients together and then you’re ready to scrub those dead skin cells away.

Each recipe makes enough for one average-size person. Recipe can also be doubled. Since ingredients are all natural with no preservatives, the scrub should be used within 24 hours.
