OPUS HOTEL - VANCOUVER

Picture

The Diva Suite Penthouse at Opus Hotel in Vancouver truly has that diva appeal. Cherry red velvet couch, animal skin faux furnishings and all the expected accouterments. J Lo, Cher, Christine Aquilera have all done their "diva thing" in this suite.

Defined as a "boutique experience, Opus opened just a couple of years ago in Vancouver's downtown core and it's been running high occupancies ever since.

Opus Hotel, Vancouver

Many of the rooms have distinctive and signature features -the bathroom with a wall of windows overlooking Davie Street, for instance. Watch out when you get out of the shower!

There are no signature green apples here (as there are in many boutique hotels) the wall of windows in bathrooms is a signature feature so is colour - guest rooms are painting in cranberry, saphire blue, apple green and burnt umber.

Each character room also has personally selected books and CDs. In the "Susan room" for instance, you'll find books such as Superflirt and Latin Dancing and CDs by Michael Buble and Sheryl Crow. The "Mike room" would be the one with the wall of windows in the bathroom. Hmmmm.

In each bathroom along with the typical amenities such as shampoo and conditioner, guests will also find an oxygen cannister ($14.95). Just break the seal, push the pump, take about five or six deep breaths and you're good to go. It's good for boosting energy, circulation, digestion, clarity and hang overs. Apparently, the peak time for oxygen sales is weekends. That's because the spiffy Opus Bar, named Vancouver's most popular nightspot in the 2006 Zagat guide) is a hot spot Thursday, Friday and Saturday after 10 p.m. And, it's open until 3 a.m. Bring on the oxygen!

Big bonus for fitness buffs: the fitness room, drenched with natural light, is open 24 hours a day. And for yoga enthusiasts. You can find your inner serenity in the privacy of your comfortable guestroom. Ask for your exclusive password at check in, log on to myyogaonline.com in your room and enjoy up to three days of complimentary and unlimited access to online yoga, pilates and meditation lessons. No mat? No worries. Opus provides yoga mats too!
