BATHING BEAUTIES
by Cara Edell
In a traditional Japanese home, soaking in a deep tub - the Japanese word is “ofuro” - is a ritual of relaxation. The ancient technique of immersing the entire body in hot water is said to bestow therapeutic benefits such as alleviating tension and stress, soothing muscular pains and stimulating the blood’s circulation.
In Japan and other countries around the world, bathtubs are more than just plumbing fixtures. They can be artistically designed and carefully crafted products that provide a luxurious and relaxing experience.
An increasing number of luxury spas and resorts are installing high-end tubs to further pamper their guests and offer a point of distinction. As many of us already know, soaking in a warm bath is a great way to unwind without having to visit an expensive resort or health club.
We found these four beautiful bathtubs to help you create a Spa Style at home:
There are few things more pleasurable than soaking in style, especially after a long, tiring day. And while these beautiful and unique tubs are not inexpensive - prices range from 13,000 to 25,000 - they can transform an ordinary bathroom - even a bedroom or any space - into a private sanctuary, recreating the spa experience under your own roof.
However, says Candy Silvasy, founder of spa decor & lifestyle firm, Art of the Spa, "when shopping for a tub, keep in mind the style of your space. A tub that doesn’t translate well with your decor can actually be an eyesore and definitely “un”spa style." She adds that it's also a good idea to actually lay down in the tub in the showroom. "Comfort," says Silvasy, "should be the ultimate factor when purchasing."
