Savvy travellers know that eyes, just like skin, need to be protected from the sun's harmful rays. Serengeti's new designer styled eyewear not only protect but look exceeding fashionable. The Serengeti lens is also acclaimed as "the best driving sunglasses you can invest in." We've tried them out on the beach, by the pool, running along city streets and driving into Ontario cottage country. Very nice.

Launched mid-2006, the V-Phone allows users to make calls anywhere in the world from any PC with high-speed or WiFi Internet access. It travelled with me to Las Vegas, British Columbia and Mexico. I love the size (just slightly bigger than a tube of lipstick), the weight (next to nothing) and the ease of use. Once you've signed up for the service, it's just plug 'n play. Plug it into a USB port, a phone panel pops up on your screen, use your mouse to click on the numbers and, through your headsets (which come with) you simply listen to the ringing, wait for your party to pick-up and talk through the tiny microphone also provided.
Downsides are you need high-speed Internet access or WiFi and the quality of sound is only as good as the strength of the signal. For instance, in Mexico when the WiFi signal I was using was low, there were drop outs and static in the conversation but otherwise it was great for picking up phone message. Conversations not as good due to the quality of the microphone. People had some difficulty hearing me and sometimes there was a slight delay.
Still, it's an excellent and cost effective little tool for travellers. The V-Phone itself is just $30 Cdn. plus a rebate then there's a montly fee phone plan For someone who travels lots it's much less expensive than paying cell phone roaming charges. Give it a better microphone and I'd consider getting one myself. For info: www.vonage.ca
