Santani Wellness Resort & Spa now open in Sri Lanka
News Release issued September, 2016:
Nestled amidst the misty Knuckles mountain range, Santani Wellness Resort & Spa is a setting of simplicity, serenity and relaxation. It is an intelligently designed wellness resort on a 48-acre site that strives to offer every guest an experience of mindfulness and rejuvenation.
Santani was conceptualized by Vickum Nawagamuwage, who grew up in Sri Lanka before moving to the USA to pursue further studies. With an MBA and advanced management education at Harvard Business School along with a global strategy consulting career, Vickum moved back to Sri Lanka and founded Santani.
A novel venture catering to the rapidly growing segments of the wellness tourism market, Santani will target the weary travelers and busy corporates who seek a mindful retreat for revitalization. The primary focus of the resort is to introduce guests to a lifestyle that helps them to become better individuals, thriving in everything they do. The ideology that sustainability begins with the human is at the core of Santani - it is only when humans as a race are sustained that the environment can also be sustained.
Santani is the first destination spa in Sri Lanka comprising of a full hydrotherapy facility. With four dry treatment rooms and three hydrotherapy rooms including a thermal salt bath, sauna and steam room, the facility occupies a 6.000 sq. ft. underground space. The spa offers a wide range of therapies, encompassing traditional Ayurvedic and western treatments.
The wellness packages are customised to meet the needs of each individual and include Detox, Balance and Rejuvenation, Sleep Enhancement, Personalised Ayurveda, Ideal Body and Recovery. Each guest begins their wellness journey with a health assessment by an Ayurvedic doctor and wellness concierge. Physical and emotional aspects are discussed and the guest is guided throughout the whole process to ensure their goals are achieved.
The resort also offers an array of stimulating and life-enhancing outdoor activities including a 1,200 sq ft pavillion that provides the ideal space for yoga, pilates, cardio and TRX.There’s also the option to swim inthe outdoor infinity lap pool overlooking the mountain scenery or bath in the nearby freshwater river. Other activities include meditation, nature walks, mountain biking and hiking. As part of the wellness offering there are three main food categories that make up the nourishing menus at Santani. These include a personalized detoxing and raw food menu, a vegetarian menu and a full option menu.
The spaces at Santani have been designed to help soothe guests minds and allow for total focus and relaxation. While many of the worlds' spas give attention to material luxuries, Santani has taken minimalist luxury to the next level by emphasizing simplistic spaces with clean lines and minimal material items.
The unique architecture has also been designed with energy efficieny in mind. Because the resort is located in the cool hills of Sri Lanka, it does not require air conditioning and therefore saves up to 70% of energy use. Many of the resort’s structures, including 16 floating pavillions are built upon stilts and allow for a natural air flow and minimal disruption to the natural surroundings. Almost 90% of the furniture and woodwork at Santani is made from reclaimed wood, including a whole timber deck salvaged from a demolished 100-year-old tea factory.
With a multinational and multidisciplinary team of staff, Santani offers a high quality and well-rounded style of service. Key members include the General Manager, who brings his expertise from working with top hotel brands including the Oberoi group and the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo. The Executive Chef joined Santani after ten years as the Corporate Chef at Resplendent Ceylon overseeing the food at Ceylon Tea Trails and Cape Weligama. He also holds 15 years of work experience from France as well as stints with Restaurant Andre, a Michellin two star top 50 restuarant in the world.
The Head of Wellness, an Ayurvedic doctor from India, comes to Santani with a wealth of knowledge garnered from having worked at renowned spas including Six Senses, Soneva Gili in the Maldives. The Head Wellness Concierge has worked in the health and wellness industry for over 30 years and has skills gained from iconic retreats such as Gwinganna and Golden Door in Australia. The lead Ayurveda therapist has over 12 years of experience including seven years working at Ananda in the Himalayas, one of the world's top wellness resorts. More on Santani Wellness Resort & Spa
