By its very nature, Whistler, BC, is the ultimate wellness retreat: fresh coastal mountain air, breathtaking alpine vistas, a full range of spa and therapeutic treatments, award-winning cuisine and limitless outdoor activities. Naturally, this destination – nestled in the spectacular Coast Mountains just two hours from Vancouver – is home to Whistler Wellness Week, May 31 to June 7, 2008, with eight days of unique programs and experiences dedicated to living well.
Distinguished by its impressive dual mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, this year-round resort offers countless leisure and recreational activities for physical health, from mountain biking, golf, and skiing to alpine yoga, pilates and personal training. The mountains blend seamlessly with Whistler Village, a pedestrian-only center abundant in choices for holistic wellness. Nurture the body with local and international cuisine, then indulge and revitalize with a wide range of distinctive spa treatments from ancient methods to innovative techniques, including acupuncture, reflexology and aromatherapy.
And while every season offers something special in Whistler, it’s appropriate that spring, the season of renewal, brings Whistler Wellness Week to the resort. Here’s a sample of event highlights:
• Wellness Fair – June 1
• Every Woman in the World Conference – May 30-June 1
• Whistler Escape - a women-only bike camp – June 2-9
• Yoga Twenty-Four – June 4-5
• Holistic Association Conference – June 6-8
• Daily seminars and workshops throughout the week
Spring is also an ideal time to find great deals at the resort’s wide range of accommodations, restaurants and spas, including special offers for Whistler Wellness Week. Check out this package available through whistler.com and 1.800.WHISTLER: two nights’ accommodation and a two-day wellness pass with access to all events during your stay, from just $179 CAD per person. A little over a year ago Travel to Wellness visited this lovely mountain village and spent a couple of days spa hopping. Here are our Best Spas Whistler..
WHAT'S NEW IN WHISTLER?
Four Seasons Resort Whistler has formed an exclusive partnership with the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC) to offer visitors an experience of First Nations inspired culinary and indigenous spa offerings.
The SLCC will open to the public in July with Four Seasons as the exclusive caterer plus the resort will serve select First Nations items in Fifty Two 80 Bistro. The menu will feature such dishes as Bison Carpaccio and Tender Braised Sturgeon with seasonal Pemberton vegetables.
The First Nations inspired treatments include a private steam with essential oils such as Rose, Lavender and Juniper and a deep-heated Compress Massage featuring indigenous herbs from British Columbia applied to the muscles and joints to sooth.
WHERE TO EAT HEALTHY
Araxi restaurant in Whistler Village has introduced Whistler's first 100 Mile Menu. The fixed-priced, six-course menu features dishes with every ingredient sourced, raised, produced and grown from within a 100 mile (160 kilometre) radius of the restaurant. Look for items such as Fraser Valley Mushroom Consomme, Mission Ruby Trout and North Arm Farm Asparagus.
Be well, travel safe.
