Six Ways to Save Money When Traveling

Yes. We will all be able to travel again – hopefully soon.  And, without a doubt, no one minds saving a bit of money when on-the-road, away from home. While traveling can often be a costly activity, there are things you can do to save while on the road.

Here are six simple strategies to help your save a few dollars when traveling:

#1 Travel Off-Season

This is considered one of the most important strategies for saving money when traveling. During these “low” or “shoulder” seasons, flight rates, accommodation costs, tours, and food are generally less expensive. If you intend to tour Eastern Europe, for instance, visit  during the winter when there are fewer tourists. Similarly, if you want to visit the Caribbean, go there during summer when everyone else feels it’s the wrong time to travel. You will get a lot of discounts, and you can be sure you will save a lot of money as opposed to when you travel in-season.  Following a recent visit, one of our Caribbean favourites is Melia Punta Cana Beach Resort Wellness Inclusive, Adults-Only.

#2 Consider Booking a Rental House

While some people do not like cooking while on vacation, it is a good tip that can help you save some money. You can make some meals from your room. Remember room service is very pricey, and you can save yourself some cash by making your own meals. You will not only enjoy the cheap prices of preparing your own meals, but you will also have meals made in your own time and interest.  Experienced individuals from Get Your Stay also recommend you to book rental houses while on vacation. This way according to Getyourstay.com  you can have some cashback upon making the bookings.  Also take note that the number of times you book rental houses on vacation and the place you want to travel to, all influence the amount of cashback you will get on booking the rentals. It will therefore be prudent for you to go for rentals every time you are on a vacation. Ensure your house has a microwave and refrigerator so that you can store up your food remains and warm them when you need to instead of discarding food.

#3 Maximize Free Activities

Before you set out to travel, do some research. As you identify the places to travel to, understand the fun you can have while there. Look out for fun activities that are not charged and participate in them. For instance, you could analyze which communities live in that particular area and check their community events. As you participate in those events, you will bond with the locals, make new friends, save a lot of money and also make an impact in other people’s lives besides you having fun. For sceneries like museums too, you can visit them on days when there are discounts.

#4 Familiarize Yourself With Your Destination

Understand the geography of the place you shall be staying at. Check out the costs of transport. Consider staying in places that are centrally located for your ease of touring other places of your interest. If you can stay at a place where you can walk to your sites of interest, the better for you as you shall save money on transport costs plus walking is a great walk to get a daily workout, plus tour your destination.

#5 Maximize The Convenience of Local Markets and Stores

Local farmer markets and stores have fresh produce that is not only healthy but, often, less expensive and conveniently accessible. Depending on where you are staying, you may be able to step out of your accommodations any time of the day to grab some fresh produce.

If you have access to kitchen facilities, you can buy fresh local fish and vegetables from local suppliers and cook them yourself to save even more. A fridge comes in handy here as you can comfortably store up as many perishable goods as will last you during your stay. This is also a great opportunity to learn how to prepare local dishes with fresh and local produce.  You might even check out a local cooking class. We visited this local cooking class in Antigua

#6 Always Carry Your Own Water and Snacks

If you are traveling with kids, you can spend a lot of money on snacks. Also, if you enjoy eating snacks and taking lots of water while traveling, it will be wise for you to carry your own water and snacks. You will save the money you would have spent on buying the snacks and water. Remember you can prepare your own homemade snacks that are ideal for traveling. Your water bottles also exist to save you the costs of buying bottled water every time you feel thirsty while traveling.

#5 Get involved in the community

Befriending locals can help you save the money you would have spent hiring tour guides. Resolving to participate in community activities can also save you money. Pick up a local newspaper or magazine to research any local community activities that may be free-of-charge or available at a nominal fee.

Yes. Travel can still be fun and satisfying without having to “break the bank.”
