To help travelers, travel advisors, retreat leaders and others in the industry identify experiences that prioritize participant wellbeing, professionalism, and responsible practices, the Wellness Tourism Association has recently developed and announced the Six Principles for Responsible Retreats™. It’s a first for a segment of the tourism industry that was previously without specific guide lines.
Under the Six Principles, here a just a few of the questions you should consider when planning your next retreat,
- Qualified Leadership and Facilitation
Are the retreat leaders certified, qualified and experienced?
- Safety and Risk Management
Does the host property or tour operator have health and safety considerations in place, plus access to medical support, if needed?
- Transparency and Integrity
Are cancellation and refund policies clearly stated?
- Thoughtful Design and Inclusion
Are those with accessibility issues welcomed and catered to?
- Respect and Care
Are retreat leaders and organizers kind and respectful?
- Community, Culture and Environment
Is there environmental respect and participation opportunities for the local community?
When researching a planned retreat you’ll find many other items for consideration on under the WTA’s Six Principles for Responsible Retreats™.
