Italy’s Adler Spa Resorts Collection

Thinking of heading to Italy for a Wellness Vacation this summer? You may want to check out Italy’s Adler Spa Resorts – a collection of four properties each with a strong sense of place.

Opened back in 1810, the ADLER Dolomiti Spa & Sport Resort is located in Italy’s Dolomite region in northeastern Italy. Part of the Southern Alps, the area is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The hotel is home to a spa with a sprawling water area pools, baths and saunas. Depending on the season, outdoor activities include skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and cycling. The cuisine is Mediterranean and Ladin (the traditional local cuisine) and both emphasize local ingredients.

Nearby, ADLER Balance Spa & Health Residence, connected to ADLER Dolomiti by an underground tunnel, is a boutique, solar-powered, adults-only (over 16 years of age) property. “Balance occurs within each guest thanks to our holistic approach: Medical wellness, healthy cuisine and the hotel itself all help promote the deep relaxation that leads to recovery,” says general manager Clelia Romanelli.

ADLER Balance guests use the spa and pool at the nearby ADLER Dolomiti, but the hotel does have its own restaurant, overlooking the mountains, and offering South Tyrolean regional cuisine with the focus on local ingredients. The chef also creates customized menus for guests on special dietary programs through ADLER Med.

ADLER Lodge referred to by CNN as “Italy’s most exclusive ski resort,” is located within the Alpe di Siusi Landscape Protection Area. The hotel offers 18 suites in the main building and 12 private, freestanding chalets, modelled after classic mountain huts. A network of trails adjacent to the property allows guests to easily hike or ski out and back to explore the stunning and unspoiled mountain landscape. Visitors can also experiment with yoga,  snowshoeing, biking and swimming in the heated indoor-outdoor infinity pool. There’s also a spa and fitness centre with panoramic views of the rolling meadows and jagged Dolomite peaks. In keeping with the “wellness for the planet” philosophy that comes with wellness travel, ADLER Mountain Lodge is an eco-friendly hotel that complies with the Klimahaus Nature standards, which include strict requirements relating to energy consumption, sustainable construction materials and an architectural design that’s in harmony with the landscape.

Located in Bagno Vignoni, Tuscany, ADLER Thermae Spa & Relax Resort, is famous for its expansive complex of naturally fed thermal baths and pools. Set between the wine areas of Montepulciano and Montalcino, the five-star, 90-room/suite resort is set in the Val D’Orcia, known for its rolling hills punctuated by Cypress trees and medieval towns. The valley has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site, and has been used as backdrop for films such as The English Patient. The spa menu offers more than 120 treatments. Chef Gaetano Vaccaro utilizes organic ingredients sourced from local farms and suppliers, and the resort even has its own on-property vineyard and winery which produces olive oil as well as red, rosé and sparkling rosé varietals. Adler Thermae was named one of the top ten all-inclusive resorts in Europe by Trip Advisor, and it is also on our own list of top wellness resorts in Europe. Editor Anne Dimon visited several years ago and wrote this story.

For those who want to combine spa experiences with cutting-edge medical diagnostics and treatments, both ADLER Thermae and ADLER Balance offer ADLER MED health centers. Following an initial medical consultation, customized programs are created by a staff of doctors, nurses and therapists. Programs can include diagnosis and prevention of chronic health conditions (such as thyroid function, food intolerance and osteoporosis); stress management; weight loss and nutrition counseling; physical therapy; and dermatological treatments.

Adler Spa Resorts have been owned and managed by The Sanoner family for seven generations.
