As it Preps to Reopen, Velas Resorts Brings Wellness Programming to Your Home

By Erin Davis

I first experienced Velas Resorts in September 2018 at their “Wellnessing Getaway” retreat in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (read all about it here) at the breathtaking Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit. The wellness-packed mother/daughter trip was filled with everything from spa days and meditation sessions, to yoga and HIIT classes, and simply relaxing with healthy snacks in one of the resort’s two-story wellness suites.

Needless to say, I became a quick fan of the Velas Resorts brand and their well-curated programming on the wellness front. While we may be stuck at home for the time being in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Velas Resorts has sprung into action to offer some of this programming online with just a few clicks.  A member of the Wellness Tourism Association, Velas Resorts is also a part of the WTA Health@Home program.

Velas Resorts offers the next best thing to an in-person Velas experience with online content on the Velas magazine website and the company’s social media channels. Featuring both interactive video workshops and online articles, the initiative is part of the company’s #bettertogether and #dreamingtogether campaigns.

Wellness-focused activities include things like cooking lessons with items from your pantry, tips on how to create a serene environment, massage lessons, a lesson on how to make a gratitude stone, aromatherapy for beginners, hydrotherapy at home, yoga, and DIY crafts to do in the peace of your own living space.

The company even took their popular Wellnessing Getaway online on May 1, with activities that participants can do from home. The event offered free video workshops from 11 fitness, physical and mental health, and wellness experts in the U.S. and Mexico. Topics included things like nutrition and superfoods, at-home cardio and full body toning, yoga for healing, meditation, DIY ritual baths and more.

Recently, Velas Resorts announced its plans for reopening various properties in Mexico by the end of June. With the reopening comes new sanitary measures (called the “Stay Safe With Velas” program), which features guidelines that include things like special training, physical distancing measures, touchless sanitizer stations, guest temperature checks, luggage sanitation, sanitizing mats, personal protective equipment for staff members, and personal protection kits for guests.

In the meantime, get in the wellness retreat “zone” by visiting Velas Resorts’ online properties.
